Member Visit – Stockholm, Sweden

September 15 2025

On September 8th, the Director of European Council of Jewish Communities (ECJC), Taly Mair, visited its member, the Jewish Community of Stockholm, for a warm and inspiring encounter. She was honored to meet with Aaron Verstandig, Chairman of the Official Council of Swedish Jewish Communities, and Hanna Halpern, Secretary General of the Jewish Community of Stockholm and the Council of Jewish Communities in Sweden, whose leadership continues to strengthen Jewish life across the country. The meeting took place in the Hollandersalen at the Bajit Community Center — a space named after Fritz Hollander, former president of the community and one of the founding members of the ECJC 60 years ago. In the framework of the AEPJ, a partner of Ecjc, we also held meaningful exchanges with numerous Swedish cultural institutions, NGOs, and government agencies committed to promoting Jewish heritage and culture. The sessions were coordinated by Paideia CEO, Noa Hermele while the whole event was coordinated by AEPJ Director, Victor Sorensen. These conversations highlighted once again how central cultural heritage is as a tool to foster dialogue, combat ignorance, and fight antisemitism. We look forward to developing new collaborations that will preserve and celebrate Jewish heritage in Sweden and across Europe 🌍
