Member Spotlight: ECJC Members in Action: Jewish Life and Culture in Budapest, Hungary
September was a vibrant month for Jewish cultural life in Budapest, with ECJC member organizations bringing Jewish culture, heritage, and community into synagogues, cultural spaces, and the streets of the city.
The 28th Budapest Jewish Cultural Festival, organized by Mazsihisz, brought people together for concerts, literary events, and performances in some of the city’s historic synagogues. Judafest, organized by JCC Budapest – Bálint Ház, welcomed around 6,000 people to Klauzál Square for a lively day of music, food, activities, and community, as part of the European Days of Jewish Culture 2026. Together with the Sálom Street Festival, Judafest showcased the diversity of Budapest’s Jewish community, with organizations from across the city contributing to the programme.
The month also highlighted the strong connections between Jewish and wider cultural life in Budapest, including through the Pozsonyi Piknik festival, where Jewish heritage featured alongside literature, music, theatre, and gastronomy. From historic synagogues to public squares and neighbourhood streets, September offered a wonderful snapshot of the richness, diversity, and openness of Jewish life in Budapest.
