Welcome to Our New Associate – Foundation for Jewish Heritage

September 3 2026

We are happy to welcome our new associate – The Foundation for Jewish Heritage, which is a London-based charity dedicated to safeguarding endangered Jewish built heritage across Europe. Guided by a distinguished Board of Trustees, the Foundation works to preserve historic synagogues – the most iconic symbols of Jewish communal life – and supports restoration and conservation projects in multiple countries.

At the heart of the Foundation’s mission is education. By restoring and reimagining historic synagogues, it transforms these spaces into places of learning, dialogue, and remembrance, helping both Jewish communities and the wider public better understand the Jewish experience. This work is particularly significant at a time of rising antisemitism across Europe. Its flagship initiative is the restoration of the 1870s Merthyr Tydfil Synagogue in Wales – the country’s most significant Jewish heritage site. Closed since 1983, the synagogue is now the focus of a £6 million project that will transform it into the Welsh Jewish Cultural Centre, creating a vibrant hub for heritage, education, and community engagement.
